Little Kids, Big City

Little Kids, Big City

Hey all — Simon and I see lots of questions about our book, Little Kids, Big City, on twitter, facebook and in person while out and about, so I thought I’d post some info all in one place for fans and readers!

Great Camera Deals

Our book is written as a he-said, she-said (100% by us!) and covers the good, the bad, the ugly and the things that make you want to set your hair on fire about raising children. We cover things that happened in New York, around the States, overseas…etc. At one point I wanted to call the book “Putting to Death is Not Nice,” but Simon and our publisher wouldn’t let me. I did get that in as a chapter title, though! It’s the name of a song François wrote, and if you want to know the rest of that story, it’s….drumroll….”in the book.” Hahahaha.

The book can be found in print via Amazon or at Walmart. Online, Little Kids, Big City can be downloaded for the Kindle.

If you would like your book personalized we are, of course, happy to do that. Send your book with an SASE to Avalanche Entertainment LLC, 249 Smith Street #138, Brooklyn, NY 11231, with a note detailing the name and inscription you’d like. We’ll sign and return to you. Similarly, if you download to an e-reader and would like a signed cover image, email your receipt to assistant(at)mccordvankempen(dot)com and we’ll send.

Here are some reader reviews we pulled off the web:

You can become a parent without losing yourself, May 15, 2010By Mary G. Longorio “Texasbookgirl”

I approached Little Kids Big City Tales from a Real Home in New York City with some trepidation. I was well acquainted with the TV personas of the authors, Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen (he of the red pants). This was not at all what I expected. Well written, divided into sections and very insightful and compassionate, LKBC is a parenting guide, no matter where you live. Touching briefly upon their meeting, courtship (a bit unconventional) and marriage, the couple is trying very hard to carve a place for themselves and their two boys in the big city. Van Kempen and McCord are very open of their own struggles and the values and issues that they want to pass on to their two boys. What I feel really sets this apart from both the steady stream of parenting books and writings by every “celebrity” around are the two are witty, well informed and passionate about being parents. Their enjoyment of each other, their boys and their family are evident. They are passionate about creating a healthy and happy life for their family. The reader cannot help but catch their enthusiasm. If you are going to foist a parenting book upon a friend, do them a favor…get a book that will do some good and tat they will enjoy.

A Pleasant Surprise, August 2, 2011 By VegasBelle
First I will start off by saying that I do not normally read parenting books at all. You can tell from my profile that I edit and review romance novels. Second, I’m not a parent, but I do wish to have children some day. This book was amazing. I could not put it down. This was not a how to book on raising children in a city. It was the story of two people from different parts of the world, falling in love and coming together to build a strong family unit. I found myself hooked after the first paragraph. It was witty, down to earth with not an ounce of pretentiousness. I was pleasantly surprised and recommended it to my friends who do have children.

I really enjoyed reading this. I do enjoy watching the show but wish it was back to just the original five of you. Just thought it really was better chemistry, but as we all know nothing ever stays the same. I look forward to watching the upcoming Season IV and will check back on this website every now and then. Also glad that you and Bethanny are still friends along with Ramona.

Alex, Sonja was way out of line the whole night. I can’t believe she confronts you first, the next second she is kicking you out. What type of medication is she on?….I hope not Kelly’s. Sonja became very upset when you were speaking because all the points you were making were True. Luann wasn’t even there and she is already talking about kicking you out herself. She is also unbelievable. Stay true to yourself. You are the only housewife making sense this season.

what the hell is wrong with this woman?! “HER” day? what a self-centered, narcissist! i love how she never explains why she requested that NOBODY else could speak at the rally except her. she’s the female version of Donald Trump – bad manners, huge ego, arrogant, unapologetic, presumptuous and totally FULL of herself! oh yeah, and a LIAR!. i thought blaming the hijacking of the ceremony speech on Simon was a neat trick! does she think we’re all stupid ? – its very OBVIOUS that she wanted all the attention for herself (to feed her insatiable, fat ego)! and then, after having done this thing, complaining that being confronted by Simon and Alex was “annoying” – that was the jewel in the crown!
Oh and by the way, how many times in this episode did she call this charity event “HER DAY”? I think the repetition of this statement/declaration speaks VERY well to what her motivations for excluding the other 25 scheduled speakers were – HERSELF!!! i hope this behavior blows up in her face; she deserves to be ashamed and embarrassed for what she did to all those people!

  8. Thanks a lot for giving everyone an exceptionally nice chance to discover important secrets from this blog. It really is very cool plus stuffed with a good time for me personally and my office co-workers to visit your web site at a minimum three times in one week to read the fresh secrets you have. And lastly, we’re actually pleased with the eye-popping guidelines you give. Some two ideas in this post are indeed the best I’ve ever had.
