RHONY 404 – What We Wore

This week will be a short post as Simon and I spent most of that Hamptons weekend with our children, which doesn’t typically make dramatic television unless someone falls off an ATV or a horse. Thank goodness they didn’t – no ER visits that weekend!

At LuAnn’s cocktail party for the ladies, I wore a Walter faux fur & knit vest over a Plein Sud tank top, Vintage Revolution jeans, a Linea Pelle black tote, jewelry by Lauren Kara and boots that must not be named….yet….

Next, we visited a stable in Quogue for Cindy — Simon and I were in head to toe John Bartlett, and the boys both in Ralph Lauren for kids. I wore sunglasses by Coach.

Here are a few pictures from my phone of the boys that day…bottle feeding young donkeys and François riding a horse while the wives bickered in the background.

Walnut Fudge Pie

This is an old family favorite recipe – my godmother Fae passed it down and I’ve adapted it a bit to make it healthier (YES, that’s ironic considering this is a dessert.) Since I don’t have a photo of a finished pie to share with you today, I’m sharing a pic of Fae at my christening. Don’t you LOVE her glasses??

Crust
¼ c Unsalted butter
¼ c. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Flour
1 c. Walnuts, finely chopped

Filling
1 stick Unsalted butter
2 oz Semi sweet chocolate
1 c. Sugar
½ c. Flour
2 Eggs
½ tsp Vanilla

Chop the walnuts either very finely by hand or pulse in a food processor. Add sugar, butter and flour and press with a flat implement (I use the bottom of a measuring cup) into a greased pie plate.

Melt butter, add chocolate, sugar and flour and stir until fully combined. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 15 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla, pour into pie crust and bake at 325F for 20-30 minutes. Note, the center will look wet and bubbly but it hardens as it cools.

Calamari for Picky Eaters

I get about ¼ pound of squid from our local fish counter (that feeds two boys plus a bite or two for us.) Slice it into bite-sized pieces while you heat up an inch or two of vegetable oil in a heavy saucepan.

Set out two small bowls – break an egg into one and put flour plus salt/pepper to taste in the other. You can be heavy-handed with the S&P. Soak the squid pieces in the egg first, then roll in the flour mixture. Tap off excess and set aside.

When the oil is bubbling, take a slotted spatula and lower half the squid into the saucepan (or whatever will fit on one layer in the pan.) Fry for about 15 seconds – just until lightly browned, and remove to paper towel. Let sit for about one minute and serve hot. If I’m making it for adults I do lemon juice but skip it for the kids.

Serve with leftover pizza sauce warmed up in a ramekin or small bowl – great for dipping! One cleanup tip – I soak up the frying oil with the day’s newspaper, then throw out to avoid dumping oil down the drain.

RHONY 403 – What We Wore

This episode begins with a lunch between Sonja and me, where I went a bit vintage — my sweater/skirt set and knee high boots were from the Plein Sud Avenue Montaigne store and are about 9 years old.  The necklace is by LeAnita Ragland Brooks, the sister of a friend of ours.

Next, we see five minutes of my day-long birthday party — unfortunately it’s the few minutes where everyone froze at the very end and snarky housewives arrived.  Allow me to show you a photo of  our arrival at Governor’s Island.  Simon is in a mixture of John Varvatos and Ralph Lauren with Vintage Revolution jeans.  I’m in a coat by Tulle, Jimmy Crystal sunglasses, Ferragamo bag and boots that LuAnn doesn’t like.

Next up, an interview where I wore White House Black Market and earrings by Ray Griffiths.

Moving right along, we see a David Meister fashion show for the Dawson Scleroderma Foundation — Simon wore Malan Breton and I paired a Blanc de Chine accordion top with Loris Diran tuxedo trousers.  My red and blue clutch is by La Lucca.

In the next talking head interview, I wore a dress by Donna Ricco.

Here’s the finished product from the photo shoot…

And finally, here I am in a blue Walter dress, silver pashmina and some of Ramona’s True Faith jewelry.

RHONY 402 – What We Wore

So I thought that there would hardly be any fashion to report on this week, but NO.  I had forgotten about all those talking head interviews, cutaways, etc.

Green maxi dress by Rolando Santana — wedding veil, headpiece and gown which follows were from Kleinfeld.  Random fact — when we got married, I lived on the Upper East Side, but traveled to Brooklyn to buy my wedding gown!  Foreshadowing???

Simon wore a fetching rainbow-striped tailcoat, which we rented from a costume shop, and I wore my actual wedding gown, which you can see here in an almost eleven-year-old photo.

Following the drama of the march, we move along to the Gucci event, where Simon and I both wore Blanc de Chine; I added a Cavalli arm bangle and clutch.

Next you see me at Sonja’s house in Walter, with Gucci shoes and bangle from Barneys New York.  Yes, I did happen to wear the same outfit to Bethenny’s 40th birthday party, though the two events were about six weeks apart in real time.

Lastly, I had two interviews this week.  The pink t-shirt is MNG by Mango, and the olive band jacket is by Walter.

RHONY 401 – What We Wore

Hey all — as promised, we’re going to list out what we wore in each episode, with screen grabs when possible.

Here Simon is wearing head-to-toe John Bartlett, and while I wait for my 1,000th glass of champagne I’m wearing what I like to call the “Etch-a-Sketch” dress by Rolando Santana (because the sequins are black on one side and white on the other; you can write your name in it by rolling over the sequins!)  I happen to wear a lot of Rolando’s work in this episode, and he sells all over the country, as well as a limited run on Bluefly…so go for it!

While we work together at home, I’m in a t-shirt by Walter, sandals by Cynthia Vincent and earrings by Ray Griffiths.  The necklace is something I’ve had for a while and unfortunately don’t know where it is from.  Simon is in a John Bartlett shirt, pink moccasins by Fins and we are both wearing Vintage Revolution jeans.  The cat was wearing fur.

Again Alex is in a Rolando Santana dress, and a great costume choker from Housing Works with silver Cavalli heels.  Simon is rocking Diesel leather pants, a custom made red shirt from a tiny little boutique in the Hampstead Heath area of London, and a label-less but nonetheless fun-looking jacket he picked up at a Divas Shop for Opera event.

No makeup makeup, a Walter tank top on Alex and a t-shirt on Simon for Dance New Amsterdam.  And an overly sliced bagel.

On Alex, a cream & beige Rolando Santana dress, Cavalli heels, cocktail ring by Ray Griffiths, Sunglasses by Jee Vice, Cream clutch by Sevy and earrings by Thad Cline.  On Simon, Versace suit, Thomas Pink shirt and tie, Cavalli belt and Church’s brogues.

Dress by Malan Breton; jewelry I’ve had for decades.

Shirt by Epaulet…..and that’s all for this week!
