Johan William McCord van Kempen
Johan; born early November 2005 in Brooklyn, wasn’t quite as young as Francois when he first traveled and had to wait until he was 25 days when he took his first flight and this was to Cannes, in the south of France. Johan is his Grandfather Francois’ second name and like Francois goes back several generations in Simon’s father’s family.
William, Johan’s second name, is prevalent in the Anglo side of Simon’s family (his mother’s side) as well as both the paternal and maternal sides of Alex’s. Both Johan and his brother share McCord as a second middle name; having two middle names is a tradition in the van Kempen family.
Johan is as obstreperous as Francois and despite being 2 years younger is no pushover. Like Francois, Johan has traveled a lot; travels include England, France and the Caribbean. He plans to make his first trip to Australia to visit his cousins in late summer 2009, at the same time his cousins from Budapest Hungary will be in Australia too, making it the first time ever that all 8 of his paternal grandmother’s grandchildren will be in one country.
Johan is either a budding fireman or train driver and loves to spend time in his & Francois' games room where they seem to have way too many toys.
In September 2008 Johan will start pre-school at the same private school that Francois attended when he was 3 years old. This might seem strange to many outside NYC but not only did Johan have to apply for a place but he had to be interviewed by the school to make sure he was suitable! Only in New York!
