Francois Robert McCord van Kempen
Francois was born in late October 2003 in Manhattan, and is named after his paternal Grandfather, who died when Simon was only 5 years old. His second name; Robert is for his maternal grandfather; who died when Alex was just 11.
Francois took his first flight to London when he was 13 days old and when we were flying back (by then Francois was 19 days old) we were asked by a fellow passenger how young our son was and when we told her that he was 19 days old she replied how that was very young to fly but the previous week she had flown with a baby only 13 days old. We had to laugh as that was Francois – she’d asked the same question on our outbound flight.
When Francois was 5 weeks old he took his second overseas flight, this time to Marrakesh, Morocco and therefore had been to three of the Earth’s continents already.
He made it to his fourth and fifth; Asia and Australia when he was three months old and by his first birthday had clocked up in excess of 200,000 miles flying!
He’s also enjoyed a couple of trips to visit Simon’s sister Sue, her husband Jani Rado and 3 cousins who live in Budapest, Hungary.
Francois first went to St Barth’s in 2003 when he was in utero and has been back for two weeks every year since. Summer 2008 will be his 5th trip (well 6th if you count 2003).
Francois’ favorite movie at the moment is “The Incredibles” (he says he’s Dash), he likes to play his guitar as well as play with his fire trucks and police cars in his games room, and when we’re in a French speaking country he’ll happily speak French (we try to get to France as well as St Barth’s at least once each year).
